J.D. Martínez close to deal? To meet with mystery team

The slugger appears to sign a new deal

J.D. Martínez is one of the biggest bats in free agency this year and it appears he is close to signing a new contract.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, Martínez is on his way to Orlando, Florida, to meet with a team at the Winter Meetings.

That can only mean one thing, talks are getting serious between the two or they have already signed him and are ready to present him as their new player.

Martínez has been mentioned as a possible target for several teams, including the San Francisco Giants, St Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox have been the teams that have shown the most interest in the slugger.

The 30-year-old slugger is projected to get a contract for for six years and $150 million dollars  MLB Trade Rumors, a big payday for the outfielder after skyrocketing his stock with a great showing with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second half of the season.

Where he hit for .302 and 29 homers, finishing the season batting .303 with 45 homers and 104 RBIs.

Martínez is projected to hit .290 with 31 dingers and 81 runs batted in in 2018.

The right-handed power hitter would be a great and needed addition to the Red Sox, as they now have to compete with the Yankees trio of Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez in the AL EAST.

Stanton, Judge and Sanchez hit 144 homers combined in 2017, while the Red Sox only 168 as a team.

Red Sox need firepower and this could be there first signing of the winter.
