The Boston Red Sox are beginning to move their pieces to clear up some space for J.D. Martinez, as they traded Bryce Brentz to the Pittsburgh Pirates, as the Bucs themselves announced the operation via their Twitter account.
According to Evan Drellich of NBC Boston, the Red Sox trade Brentz for cash considerations, as they clear up a spot on their 40-man roster in order to add J.D. Martinez to the team whenever the team makes the signing official.

Various sources reported that Boston was more interested in trading Jackie Bradley Jr., in order to give Martinez playing time in the outfield, but with this operation, it is likely that J.D. will fill the designated hitter spot.
Brentz didn't saw MLB action last season, as he spent the year playing in the Triple AAA side Pawtucket, where he hit an average of .271 and 31 HRs.
