David Price persuaded J.D. Martinez to sign for the Red Sox

Boston owe David Price a big one!

David Price had a tough 2017 season: He was injured the most part of the last campaign and had some off the field problems that caused that he was made the Red Sox' villain by a part of the fanbase, and booed when he was on the field. Not what you expect for the highest-payed player in franchise history ($217 million for 7 years).

But now with the arrival of J.D. Martinez just this Monday, the fans will have much thank to Price and maybe apologize to him, as the pitcher persuaded the slugger to come to Boston.

As the pitcher told in an interview with for USA Today this Tuesday, Martinez and Price were constantly in touch during the winter about the possibility of signing with the Red Sox, as he cleared all of Martinez doubts regarding making a deal with Boston. Both played together in the Detroit Tigers.

And those conversations paid off, as Martinez signed with the Red Sox this Monday for a 5-year-deal worth $110 million. Now with the addition of the probably most desired free agent this offseason, Boston now emerges as a real contender against bitter rivals New York Yankees for the AL East.
