Manny Machado finally on the move?

Baltimore is apparently now willing to listen to offers for the third basemen

The Orioles continue to receive interest for their best player.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Baltimore team has received a couple of calls for third baseman Manny Machado.

Heyman explains that there is no concrete offer yet for the player and that logically it's expected to be a great offer to be able to take Machado away from the Orioles, but Baltimore is willing to listen.

Teams like the Phillies and Yankees have been the two teams that have shown the most interest for the Dominican and could be expected to be those who have contacted Orioles.

Both organizations have a good number of prospects to make a trade.

But, what are they willing to give up?

Despite listening to other teams, the Orioles are expected to seek to negotiate a contract extension with the third basemen, but it looks as if Machado is already half way out the door..

Machado will become a free agent at the end of the next season and is expected to get a big contract around 300 million dollars.

Last year, Machado finished with a .259 average with 33 homers and 95 RBIs in a total of 156 games. Not his best by farm but still impressive,

In his six seasons in the Major Leagues, Machado accumulated 138 home runs as well as 406 RBIs and an average of .270 in 764 games.

It is expected that his play from last season gets him around 17.3 million dollars in salary arbitration according to MLB Trade Rumors.

Other teams that may have interest in Machado are Cardinals, Giants, Braves, among others.

In previous weeks we had talked about a trade fro Machado involving Gleyber Torres, here is that full article:

The New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles are heading in completely different directions in 2018.

New York is on the way to becoming one of the strongest teams in baseball and Baltimore is every season inching closer to a complete rebuild.

If the Orioles accept their reality sooner than later they could actually be in a better position.

Why?

The Orioles actually have at least three pieces they can trade away right now that could land them type of talent any franchise would dream off.

Players like Manny Machado, Adam Jones, and Zach Britton, would definitely bring in good talent, especially their third basemen.

Machado is going into the last year fo his contract with the Orioles and will be a free agent in 2018 and it seems the 25-year-old already has one foot out the door.

The Orioles plan to talk extension with Machado this winter, but if things don't even seem close it should be time to sell.

Machado has already been involved in trade rumors several times, with teams like the Yankees and Red Sox showing interest in the player.

According to Jim Duquette of MLB.com, the smart trade for both teams would be to send Gleyber Torres to the Orioles in exchange for Machado.

Trading Machado within the division to New York would be a tough sell to the O’s fan base, but the Yankees are a perfect fit for Machado, given that they don’t have a long-term solution at the hot corner and will likely be a front-runner for his services next year when he hits free agency. If the Yanks would part with shortstop Gleyber Torres, the No. 1 prospect in the game who is coming off Tommy John surgery, that would make it enticing for the Orioles. Both sides would be equally uncomfortable in a deal like that, which usually means it makes plenty of sense.

Most probably think that Torres is too high of a price to pay for Machado, but if you could work out an extension with Machado it might be worth it.

Torres came to the New York organization as part of the trade from Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs.

And while he is considered the best prospect in all of baseball, he was unable to make his Big Leagues debut in 2017 due to a major injury that required Tommy John surgery on his left arm.

The 20-year-old prospect finished 2017 with a .287 batting average, 7 homers, and 34 runs batted in, in 55 games.

It will all really depend on what Cashman is willing to do and if the Yankees are willing to wait till 2019 to go after Machado in free agency or if they want to win now and possibly secure their third-basemen of the future in 2018.

With an ALCS finish this year, it might be the ladder in 2018.
