The Cardinals are still searching for power bats for the 2018 season.
Now the St. Louis team has set their sights on the first baseman Eric Hosmer who became a free agent at the end of the 2017 season, according to information from Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Dispatch.
Without specifying the level of interest or negotiations, Goold explained that the team is in talks with the first basemen's agent, Scott Boras.
Matt Carpenter, who took the starting job at first base during 2017, would become a super utility for the Cardinals team to host Hosmer.
Last season, Hosmer finished with a .318 batting average, as well as 94 RBIs, 98 runs scored and hit 25 dingers.
Hosmer would be a Giancarlo Stanton fall back, in case they can't get a trade done with the Miami Marlins for the outfielder. They have been linked to the slugger since the beginning of the off-season.
