Giants decide who is going to be their Opening Day pitcher after Bumgarner's injury

Just when the San Francisco Giants hoped that this even year will be (again) their year, they were struck by two terrible news, as pitchers Jeff Samardzija and the ace, Madison Bumgarner, will start the season in the disabled list.

Samardzija is sidelined by a shoulder injury and Bumgarner broke the pinky of his throwing hand after being hit by a comebacker this Friday. The "Shark" will miss about a month, meanwhile "Mad Bum" will be out until June, according to ESPN.

Now, manager Bruce Bochy has decided who will fill the Opening Day's pitcher spot, as Ty Blach will face Clayton Kershaw on March 29th, according to ABC 7 News. Blach will be the first pitcher since Matt Cain on 2013 to throw on the Opening Day for the Giants besides Madison Bumgarner.

Ty Blach had a mixed rookie year, as he recorded an 8-12 record in 2017, striking out 73 batters and notching a 4.78 ERA over the course of 163.2 innings pitched.
