DThe Saint Louis Cardinals have made the best deal on the Opening Day, as they signed star closer Derek Holland. Holland was amongst Wade Davis, the most desired relievers on the free agent's market.

According to Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports, the Cardinals and the pitcher agreed to a one-year-deal and $14 million, this according to Heyman's information. The deal is still pending for the physical.

Several reports indicate that Holland received an offer from the Colorado Rockies for three seasons and $52 million, but surprisingly, the pitcher rejected it.

Holland had an excellent 2017 season, as he saved 41 games in 45 opportunities, recording a 3.61 ERA over the course of 61 games.
