Just weeks after another top prospect pitcher from the Tampa Bay Rays came down injured and needed a Tommy John surgery, José León has torn his UCL and will also need to undergo surgery and will miss the whole season. León joins fellow pitcher Brent Honeywell into the nursery for the entire year.
According to numerous sources, the Puertorican will see specialist Dr. James Andrew for a second opinion, but it is expected that the diagnose will remain the same for the 25-year-old pitcher.
De León arrived at Tampa in 2017, as he was part of the trade that sent Logan Forsythe to the LA Dodgers. He was ranked as the 24th prospect in the whole Major Leagues in 2016 and has played just a single game as a Ray last season, where he pitched 2.2 innings; he allowed 3 runs but picked up the win.
