This past off-season was kind of weird for almost all free agents that experienced it this year, as it was one of the slowest and strangest that we can remember, as elite free agents were not capable of reaching deals on early stages and had to wait until almost the beginning of the new season.

However, on the other hand, we have the non-elite, above average players that are still worth and the caliber to play at a good level on the Major Leagues, that in normal circumstances, will reach deals pretty quickly. This year wasn't the case.

According to the now Yankees' utility man, Neil Walker, his experience on the free agency was far from pleasant; he spoke with SportingNews.com's about this and said some things that catch up the attention, to say the least:

It seems like teams are putting more of an emphasis on building for the next year, or for two years down the line. So it’s one of those where we hope that it doesn’t continue to the degree that it possibly could.

He also states that this situation is alarming for the players, who are in obvious disadvantage regarding teams and organizations

I think every organization and every situation is different. But from an economics standpoint, you have teams that don’t spend a dollar in an offseason. It’s alarming from the player’s side
