Deivi García surprises the Yankees by throwing a perfect inning

The young Yankees pitcher appears primed to be on the Yankees roster

Right-hander Deivi Garcia needed to make just 12 pitches to retire three hitters during a simulated Yankees game Thursday. The Dominican dominated Mike Tauchman with a fly ball, before retiring his compatriots Miguel Andújar and Gary Sánchez with a run to third and strikeout, respectively.

Catcher Kyle Higashioka said he continues to see signs of a great future at the major league level for the 21-year-old, who is rated the Yankees' No. 3 prospect by MLB Pipeline.

"I think a common theme in our game today is how the high rate of rotations strengthens the fastball," said Higashioka. "I think his breakthrough pitch has a high rate of rotations as well, but obviously in the other direction. It has good speed, high rotation rate and knows how to launch.

"I think it has a good chance of being quite successful."
