Sonoran right handed Marco René Estrada, who was just signed this year as a brand new luxury booster and also opened in one of the two inaugural games this season with Oakland back in Tokyo against Mariners, was released this Tuesday by the Athletics.
The Mexican Estrada was hired by the Athletics as a free agent on January 25 and began the season as the number two starter of the Athletics. He was 0-2 with a 6.85 ERA and a .242 batting average of the opponents in five starts when he was placed on the 10-day disabled list on April 17 with a lumbar strain.
The 36-year-old began a rehabilitation task on July 25 and was 0-1 with an ERA of 8.44 and a batting average of .283 opponents in five starts, including one with the A's Gold team in the Arizona Rookie League, three with Class-A Stockton and one more with Triple-A Las Vegas on August 16. Marco could not return with the big team.
The Athletics now have an open position in the list of 40 players. So this year, Estrada has wonneither in the MLB nor in the Minor Leagues. He is in his 12th season in the majors.
We will have to wait if Estrada is signed by another club of the 'Great Tent', since there are teams that need pitching and more experience and that is a starter.
