Dominican Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is still advanced in his rehabilitation and could be back this weekend in Toronto, manager Aaron Boone reported.
But before that, Sanchez, who has not played since July 23 due to a pull in the left groin, will play a couple of rehabilitation meetings with Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre Wednesday and Thursday. The plan is for Sanchez to play as a receiver in both games and, if all goes well, return to the active roster at some point in the series against the Blue Jays.
"Hopefully he can join the team in Toronto and be activated on the weekend," Boone said.
Sanchez accompanied the Yankees on Monday in Baltimore, where he made some shots to second base.
Sanchez's two rehabilitation games on Scranton will be during a three-game series with the Charlotte Knights, the White-Sox Triple-A subsidiary.
