Nothing is more painful than being eliminated by your biggest rival in your own stadium, and because of this, the Yankees will have a lot to think about during the offseason. But meanwhile, C.C. Sabathia is not taking the loss so well, as he is furious with home plate umpire during Game 4, Ángel Hernández.
Being serious here: The Yankees and Red Sox both have Ángel Hérnandez rated as an above-average balls-and-strikes umpire. I know there's plenty of consternation about his calls last night, and his history with CC Sabathia isn't sterling, but the hope is for a better Game 4.— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) October 9, 2018
Sabathia himself didn't have a good performance during Game 4 against the Red Sox, as he earned 3 runs and allowed 5 hits in 3 innings pitched. However, the veteran is not pleased at all with Hernández performance as a home plate umpire.
The pitcher told to Jack Dickey of Sports Illustrated that MLB shouldn't give Hernández playoff games:
I don't think Angel Hernandez should be umpiring playoff games. He's absolutely terrible. He was terrible behind the plate today; he's terrible at first base. It's amazing how he's getting a job to umpire in these playoff games. He shouldn't be anywhere near a playoff game.
Despite his meltdown against Hernández, Sabathia didn't justify his bad because of a bad umpiring, but he did mention that Hernández strike zone is always bad.
