. This offseason has been very difficult for some players, including some All-Star caliber ones and others that are solid assets for any team. Players including Jake Arrieta, Mike Moustakas, Lance Lynn and Carlos Gonzalez had a pretty tough time, but finally they pretty decent deals. Neil Walker, who was amongst these players says that his history was not different.

Just yesterday, the second baseman signed with the New York Yankees. He was expected to get a multi-annual and pretty lucrative deal, but a the end of the day, he ended up singing a one-year-long deal and $4 million. Walker explains to Bryan Hoch from MLB.com that he didn't even got an offer until a few days ago:

"When it comes down to it, I didn't have an offer from anybody until three days ago. That was certainly frustrating. It came together fairly quickly starting the middle of last week. I'm happy to have a few weeks to get ready for the season

Having hit .265 with 14 homers and 49 RBIs over 111 games for the Mets and Brewers last season, Walker missed time in the past two campaigns with health issues in his back and hamstring. Walker has recorded a league-adjusted OPS that ranked above average in each of his eight full Major League seasons, and he brings a competent glove as well.
